LETTER FROM U. S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Acknowledge receipt of letter dated August 26, 1987 from Mr. William Y.
Nishimura, Acting Regional Administrator-Regional Housing Commissioner, U. S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Francisco Regional Office,
assuring the Board of Supervisors that HUD will give the Contra Costa County Housing
Authority fair consideration for future funding under either the Housing Voucher
Program or the Section 8 Certificate Program.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
III. REASONS TOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
On August 11, 1987 the Board of Supervisors authorized a letter to the HUD San
Francisco Regional Office expressing concern over the need for additional federal
housing funds to assist the homeless and low-income families in Contra Costa County.
The August 26, 1987 letter from Mr. Nishimura expresses HUD's concern for the
homeless and low-income families in their need for affordable housing. Additionally,
he indicates that contract authority assigned for fiscal year 1987 for the Section 8
Housing Voucher Program and the Section 8 Certificate Program has already been
distributed. However, Mr. Nishimura advises that the Contra Costa County Community
Development staff has been notified that $48,000 will be made available to the County
under the Emergency Shelter Grant Program to provide assistance to the homeless, and
that HUD will give the Contra Costa County Housing Authority fair consideration for
future funding under either the Housing Voucher Program or the Section 8 Certificate
Program.
