OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Declaring
April 25, 1990, as SHELTER, INC. ) RESOLUTION NO. 90/ 225
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DAY in
Contra Costa County
Since November 1986, Shelter, Inc. has provided services to more
than 5, 000 homeless men, women, and children. The volunteers '
role in these statistics has never been taken for granted. The
number of homeless Shelter, Inc. has helped has a definite
relationship to the donation of volunteer hours. Shelter, Inc. ' s
directors feel the precious time given by the volunteers can only
be evaluated as a priceless donation.
Volunteers stuff envelopes, sort mail, type, pick up donations of
clothing and furniture, sell tickets, and perform other small but
all-important services. They are unpaid members of the Shelter,
Inc. staff, but they are not unappreciated. Without the
volunteers ' patience and compassion for their work, Shelter, Inc.
would not be able to handle helping thousands of homeless people
each year.
The role of the volunteer in the operation of Shelter, Inc. is
invaluable. Volunteers do not march to a different drummer, they
feel with a different heartbeat. For this, their worth is truly
priceless.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
declares April 25, 1990, as SHELTER, INC. VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION
DAY in Contra Costa County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON April 17, 1990, by a unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
