HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02241987 - S.7 s. � THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA' February 24, 1987 , by the following vote: Adopted this Order on 'AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, Schroder, Torlakson, McPeak NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Locating the 1990 America's Cup Series in the San Francisco Bay WHEREAS, the San Diego Yacht Club's Stars & Stripes won back America's Cup; and WHEREAS, the world yachting community recognizes that Southern California waters do not make good race courses; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay is ideally suited for yacht racing providing strong winds that will ensure an exciting and challenging series; and WHEREAS, locating the America's Cup Series in the San Francisco Bay would transform the Series into a true spectator sport affording tremendous views of the race for over one million Bay Area residents; and WHEREAS, the regatta, including the challenger and defender trials, would bring at least $1 billion to the local economy; I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County supports efforts to locate the 1990 America's Cup Series in the San Francisco Bay.
