SUBJECT: Increase in Contract Contingency Funds and Approval of Contract Change Orders Nos
10 through 16 for the Appian Way Widening Project, No. 0662-6R4177-83, Pinole and
E1 Sobrante Area.

I. RECOMMENDED ACTION.-
APPROVE
CTION:APPROVE Contingency Fund Increase of $110,000 and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director
to execute Contract Change Orders Nos 10 through 16 in order to compensate Bay Cities
Paving and Grading Company for extra work performed.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The project contingency funds are increased by $110,000 to cover current and
anticipated change order costs. Approximately $95,000 will be reimbursed from
Federal Aid Urban funds.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
Unanticipated field conditions and the resulting numerous changes in the design of
the project increased its costs . The cumulative total of the resulting Contract
Change Orders exceeds $?5,000, requiring Board approval , similarly the increase in
contingency funds is subject to Board approval .
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The lack of approval would preclude the payment for work required for the successful
completion of the project.
