SUBJECT: Endorsement of SB 1109 (Mello) - Additional Funding for Home Delivered
Meals
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Contra Costa County Board of" Supervisors endorse Senate Bill
1109, a measure to provide additional funds ($4.5 million) immediately
for Home Delivered Meals state wide.
BACKGROUND:
Home Delivered Meals is a program that enables many frail elders to
continue living independently. According to the Contra Costa County
Senior Nutrition Program Advisory Council , more than 94,750 Home
Delivered Meals were served to approximately 1,000 Contra Costa
residents over the age of 60 during the 1987 program year.
Many frail elderly living in the County were unable to be served and are
on a waiting list. The Council estimates that passage of SB 1109 could
bring as much as $180,000 of additional funds to the %County for this
program.
