Subject:Recognition of a Life Saving Event
With great teamwork, our crews took over CPR, delivered a second shock on their Life-Pak
15 Monitor, and converted the patient into a normal sinus rhythm with good vital signs. A
12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) test was then performed indicating the patient
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
was having a heart attack.
The patient was taken to the emergency room at John Muir Medical Center in Concord and
then immediately to the cardiac catheterization lab where they removed a clot in the
patient's coronary artery and put a stent in.
The patient was discharged and has now returned to his family, work, and regular life
activities with no permanent heart damage.
This presentation recognizes the quick-thinking and outstanding work of In-Shape staff
(Manager Karen Puerpho and Aaron Swift), the Engine 8 crew (Captain Vito Impastato,
Engineer Manny Harris, and Firefighter-Paramedic Dylan Fuchs), Senior Fire Dispatcher
Margee Freudenthal, and AMR crew members (Todd Goforth and Sean Lindsey).
This successful response illustrates the effectiveness of the chain of survival from
bystanders to emergency medical providers and, ultimately, cardiac specialty care hospitals.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The presentation will not occur.
