DECLARE vacant the District III At-Large seat on the Contra Costa County Mental Health Commission previously
held by Jerome Crichton due to resignation, and DIRECT the Clerk of the Board to post the vacancy, as
recommended by Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piepho.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The Mental Health Commission notified Supervisor Piepho September 14, 2015 that Commissioner Crichton had
missed five (5) of the monthly Mental Health Commission meetings in 2015. Supervisor Piepho sent Mr. Crichton a
letter of interest on October 2, 2015 and requested he respond by October 12, 2015. As of October 16, 2015, no
response by Mr. Crichton was received from the District III office nor the Mental Health Commission. Supervisor
Piepho made the decision to vacate the seat to allow interested members of the public the opportunity to serve.
The Mental Health Commission was created in 1993. Their mission is to review and evaluate the community’s
mental health needs, services, facilities, and special problems; to advise the governing body and local mental health
director as to any aspect of the local mental health program; review the County's performance outcome data and
communicate its findings to the State Mental Health Commission; and assess the impact of the realignment of
services from the State to the County on services delivered to clients and the local community and to report the
findings and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
