HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09152015 - C.35RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of
$5,000 from East Bay Community Foundation, administered by the Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council, for Rodeo
Library services, pursuant to the local refinery Good Neighbor Agreement for the period January 1 through June 30,
2016.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No Library Fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The County currently funds 19 hours of library service at the Rodeo Library. If granted, the $5,000 received from
Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council will be used by the Contra Costa County Library to fund four additional hours of
library service from January 1 through June 30, 2016, which will provide one extra hour of service on Saturdays and
evening hours on two weekdays for a total of four additional open hours each week. These extended hours offer
Rodeo residents more opportunities to make use of the educational and recreational resources available in the library.
The Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council is a strong supporter of Rodeo Library and consistently grants funds to the
Library for extended open hours.

Subject:Apply for and Accept a Grant for the Rodeo Library
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the grant is not approved then the Rodeo Library will be open 19 hours per week instead of 23 hours per week.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Extending hours at the Rodeo Library will meet all five community outcomes established in the Children's Report
Card. Research shows that early and positive experiences with books sets the stage for a child's success in learning to
read. Additionally, literacy skills are a strong predictor of health and employment status. Extending hours at the
Rodeo Library will draw more families to the library and encourage regular exposure to reading and books, thus
improving the quality of life for children and families in Rodeo.
