BRAGDON, DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DATE: OCTOBER 27, 1986 SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR DELTA LEVEE PROGRAM Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION ADOPT resolution supporting comprehensive Delta Levee Rehabilitation Program. FINANCIAL IMPACT No direct cost to County government. Staff participation is funded through Contra Costa County Water Agency budget which contains adequate funds for County staff participation. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND On June 17, 1986, the Board approved a report from the Water Committee authorizing a coordinated campaign to develop a Delta Levee Maintenance and Rehabilitation Program. The County, along with other groups including the Contra Costa Water District, East Bay Municipal Utility District, Delta Advisory Planning Council, Committee for Water Policy Consensus, and Congressman George Miller ' s office, have formed an organization called the Coalition to Save the Delta. A petition drive was started to show broad based public support for a Delta Levee Program and legislation is now being developed to be introduced in the State legislature to implement an interim Delta Levee Rehabilitation Program pending a future comprehensive Federal Delta Levee Rehabilitation Program. As part of the show of support for the Delta levees, the Coalition is seeking resolutions of support from public and private agencies. Since Contra Costa County has been a leader in the Coalition to Save the Delta, it is appropriate for the County to adopt the attached resolption.
