RECEIVE public report of litigation settlement agreements that became final during the period of July 1, 2015
through July 31, 2015, as recommended by County Counsel.

Settlement amounts are listed below.
BACKGROUND:
Two agreements to settle pending litigation, as defined in Government Code section 54956.9, became final during the
period of July 1, 2015 through July 31, 2015.
Morgan Bonar v. County of Contra Costa, et al., CCC Superior Court Case No. C14-01891. On July 7, 2015, the
Board of Supervisors approved settlement of this employment lawsuit. Settlement in the amount of $100,000,
inclusive of attorneys fees and costs, was authorized in closed session by a 3-1 vote, Supervisor Piepho opposed and
Supervisor Glover absent. The settlement agreement became final on July 29, 2015. The funding source is the Risk
Management Liability Internal Service Fund.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Judith Royce v. Contra Costa County Regional Health Center, et al., CCC Superior Court Case No. C14-01358. On
July 21, 2015, the Board of Supervisors approved settlement of this medical malpractice action. Settlement in the
amount of $29,999, inclusive of attorneys fees and costs, was authorized in closed session by a 4-0 vote, Supervisor
Glover absent. The settlement agreement became final on July 28, 2015. The funding source is the Risk Management
Medical Malpractice Internal Service Fund.
This report includes final settlements of litigation matters handled by the Office of the County Counsel. This report
does not include litigation settlements that were reported by the Risk Management Division of the County
Administrator’s Office as a consent item on the Board’s open session agenda.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The report would not be accepted.
