APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with
The English Center in the amount of $114,000 for job skills and placement services for limited English speaking and
non-English speaking California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) participants or the
period July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$114,000: 85% Federal, 15% State; California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) single
allocation.
BACKGROUND:
The English Center provides pre-and post-employment services and translation and interpretation services in various
languages and dialects to limited English proficient CalWORKs refugees residing in East Contra Costa County.
Services include assisted job search, job placement, employment disputes resolution for job retention, and other job
related information.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The English Center will no longer provide services.
