Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
#26-975-12 with Mark Van Handel, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $1,440,000, to
provide neurology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers (CCRMC), for
the period from June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2018.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (Rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
On June 5, 2012, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-975-9 (as amended by Amendment Agreements
#26-975-10 and #26-975-11) with Mark Van Handel, M.D., for the provision of neurology services including, but not
limited to, clinic coverage, consultation, training, on-call and medical and/or surgical procedures, at CCRMC, for the
period from July 1, 2012 through May 31, 2015. Approval of Contract #26-975-12 will allow Contractor to continue
providing neurology services at CCRMC through May 31, 2018.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, patients requiring neurology services at CCRMC will not have access to Contractor’s
services which may result in a reduction in the overall levels of service to the community.
