ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21696 to add one Sergeant (6XTA) (represented) position at salary plan
and grade VHX 1835 ($6,501 - $8,099) and cancel one Deputy Sheriff-40 Hour (6XWA) (represented) vacant
position #6573 at salary plan and grade VHX 1688 ($5,620 - $7,002) in the Sheriff's Office - Marine Patrol Unit.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$31,566 annual cost increase to the Office of the Sheriff’s General fund. Retirement costs increase $13,332 annually.
BACKGROUND:
The Office of the Sheriff has expanded their Air Support Unit with the addition of a second Bell 407 GX helicopter,
STARR 3. This addition will significantly improve the ability of the Air Support Unit to provide effective airborne
public safety services with regard to specialized mission capabilities including long line rescue operations and
airborne fire suppression.
Helicopters STARR 1 and STARR 3 are expected to be in service by July 1, 2015, the

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
projected target date for the full implementation of the long line/short haul program. As the program has now
expanded with regard to mission capabilities and aircraft performance, the need exists to establish direct
supervision of personnel with the addition of this sergeant position.
Costs will be offset by reducing the amount of overtime necessary to conduct maritime law enforcement training
and enforcement operations in the Marine Services Unit overtime budget by $31,000.00
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to implement the proposed position change will impact the Office of the Sheriff’s ability to ensure the
highest public safety standards are met.
