HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06162015 - C.123RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board (WDB), to execute a contract with Jewish Vocational and Career Counseling Services in an amount not to exceed $227,070 for medical assistant career training and internship services for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) eligible job seekers for the period May 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. FISCAL IMPACT: $227,070 No County Costs: $113,535 CalWORKs (67% Federal, 33% State); $113,535 WIA (100% Federal). In addition to ten weeks of classroom training, services will include outreach, recruitment, interviewing, curriculum development, and work experience assessment of program participants. Contractor will partner with John Muir Health to oversee the job readiness, networking, and internships phase of the program. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Job seekers and dislocated workers may not receive assistance in overcoming barriers to employment, job readiness, educational programs, or career training. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children’s Report Card: 1)”Children Ready for and Succeeding in School”, 2) “Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for productive Adulthood”, 3) “Families that are Economically Self-Sufficient”, 4) “Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing”, and 5) “Communities that are safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families by training and providing employment opportunities for job seekers and dislocated workers.
