Subject:NOMINATION TO THE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS COMMISSION
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
>
(2) Labor Representatives, One (1) Environmental Engineering Firm Representative (located in Co. Co. Co.), One
(1) General Public Representative. Despite several solicitations for nominations, the Environmental #2 Alternate
seat has been vacant since 2010. Nominations for this seat are to come from environmental organizations within
the county.
The IOC reviews nominations made by the Hazardous Materials Commission for appointments all Commission
seats except the City seats. Seat terms are four years. The IOC approved Mr. Dragovich's nomination on April 13,
2015. Because there is less than 25% of the term left and the seat has been so difficult to fill, the IOC recommends
his appointment to complete the remainder of the current term and also to a new four-year term, the total time
being 4 years and 9 months.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should the Board elect to not appoint Mr. Dragovich, the Environmental #2 Alternate seat will remain vacant,
making it more difficult to achieve a meeting quorum in the absence of the Environmental #2 regular
representative.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Not applicable.
