APPOINT Maurice Gunderson (Orinda) to the At Large #1 seat on the Aviation Advisory Committee for a three-year
term ending on February 28, 2018.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The Aviation Advisory Committee was established by the Board of Supervisors in 1977. Its current charge is to
provide advice and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on the aviation issues related to the economic
viability and security of airports in Contra Costa County and to advance and promote the interests of aviation and
protect the general welfare of the people living and working near the airport and the County in general.
The At Large #1 seat became vacant when the term expired on February 28, 2015. Seat terms are three years. A
recruitment conducted by the Airports Department garnered four applications:
Elizabeth Clough (Byron)
Maurice Gunderson (Orinda)
Charles Kreling
Gary Olsen (Pacheco)

Candidates Elizabeth Clough and Gary Olsen did not appear for the interview. The Committee interviewed
candidates Maurice Gunderson and Charles Kreling, and recommends the appointment of Maurice Gunderson to
the At Large #1 seat on the Aviation Advisory Committee to a three-year term ending on February 28, 2018. Mr.
Gunderson's application is attached for reference.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should the Board elect not to appoint Mr. Gunderson, the At Large seat would remain vacant until a new
recruitment could be completed.
