FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact. BACKGROUND: For victims of fire or other natural disaster, the aftermath can be devastating. Fires and natural disasters not only wreak havoc on the emotional state of its victims, but also their financial state. Often left with just the clothes on their back, victims of fire or other natural disaster are frequently in a panicked state when they realize that they have no money, no clothes, and nowhere to sleep through the night. The SAVE program aims to provide immediate short-term support in the aftermath of a fire or other natural disaster to displaced victims by distributing gift cards, in the amount of $100, to eligible victims of fires or other natural disasters so they may purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing, or medicine. This program is available to any officially organized fire department or district. The SAVE program is financed entirely through private and corporate donations made through the California Fire Foundation. Chevron, Inc. is a major corporate donor to the program. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: This is a presentation item only. No action is required by the Board of Directors. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
