Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute an amendment
to Purchase Order #F43992 with Abbott Laboratories, Inc., to add $40,000 for a new total of $120,000 for reagents
and supplies needed for the IStat Handheld Analyzer for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and the
Contra Costa Health Centers, with no change in the original term from September 1, 2012 through August 31, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% funding is included in Enterprise Fund I Budget.
BACKGROUND:
Abbott Laboratories Inc., has been CCRMC’s primary supplier of single use cartridges for the lactic acid test. The
Integrated Nurses Leadership Program Cohort on Sepsis Mortality Reduction Project has requested a 10 minute
turnaround time for lactic acid results ordered on patients with possible sepsis. The IStat Analyzer with the single use
cartridge can perform testing in 3 minutes.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Purchase Order is not approved then CCRMC Clinical Laboratory will not be able to result the lactic acid test
ordered by our medical staff in a timely manner thus affecting patient care.
