Accept, on behalf of the County Senior Nutrition Program the donation of brand new Ford F150 Truck (vin
#1FTMF1CM3EFA70603), outfitted with a refrigerated cargo box, from Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa, Inc. to
expand the frozen meals program component and reduce waiting lists of homebound elders seeking Meals on Wheels
services.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. The vehicle is being provided to the County free of charge.
BACKGROUND:
The countywide Meals on Wheels Program, administered by the County Health Services – Public Health Division
Senior Nutrition Program under Title IIIC-2 of the Older American’s Act , delivers an average 1,350 nutritious daily
meals to 2,000 homebound elders annually on 85 daily routes countywide. The program continues to experience
chronic waiting lists of 40 to 60 homebound elders seeking meals services who cannot be reached in a timely manner,
due primarily to an insufficient number of ongoing volunteers to add additional hot meals routes .
Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa is the charitable nonprofit coalition of all

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
agencies involved in delivering meals to homebound elders through the countywide Meals on Wheels Program,
founded in 1990 to raise funds from the community to subsidize Meals on Wheels Program meals and delivery costs,
and bridge the gap between available government funds for Senior Nutrition and the needs of homebound elders in
Contra Costa County.
The Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa, Inc. Board of Directors has purchased a refrigerated vehicle specifically
designed for Meals on Wheels Programs, for donation to the County Senior Nutrition Program to expand and
enhance our frozen meals delivery component and reduce the incidence of homebound elders having to wait for
Meals on Wheels services.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Inability of County Senior Nutrition to reduce number of homebound elders on waiting lists for Meals on Wheels
