HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12162014 - C.44RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Department Director, or designee, to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with WestEd to conduct an in-classroom educational app study with the term December 9, 2014 through December 31, 2104 including acceptance of $250 stipend from West Ed to purchase educational materials. FISCAL IMPACT: No County match. Stipend to be provided to County from Institute for Education Services via WestEd BACKGROUND: The County and WestEd have routinely entered into agreements to have studies conducted in classrooms operated by Employment & Human Services Department, Community Services Bureau. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to establish the protocol for a Kiko Labs Classroom Feasibility Study which is funded by the Institute for Education Sciences. The study will involve WestEd researchers observing pre-school students as they use the "Thinking Time" i-pad app in the classroom over a 1 - 2 day period. Pre and post interviews will be conducted with classroom teachers. WestEd will provide a $250 stipend to the County for the purpose of purchasing educational materials for use in the classroom wherein the study is conducted.
