RE: Fire Chief’s Report
____________________________________________________________________________
Academy 47 continues to progress with 14 firefighters expected to graduate in early
January. These additional staff will allow us to open Fire Station 11 in Clayton and
add a Squad to Fire Station 1 in Walnut Creek.
The District continues to work with our consultant to improve operations within our
communication center. This includes the installation of new hardware and software ,
as well as improvements in internal operations. We hope to start a new “rapid
dispatch” procedure within the next 30 days that is projected to save 30-60 seconds
in total response time.
Under the Board’s direction, the District reviewed proposals from consultants that
will help us develop a response for the upcoming ambulance transport RFP. The
selected consultant will present multiple service delivery options to the District in
December and a selection will be made prior to issuance of the RFP in February.
Instead of highlighting a single incident from last month I wanted to provide the
board with a synopsis of what was a very busy month:
o Two residential structure fires with rescue
o One motor vehicle accident/vehicle fire with rescue
o One hash lab explosion with critical burn victims/widespread damage
o One technical rescue with entanglement/amputation
o One fire fatality
o Several multi-casualty incidents
o Responded to 5,000 incidents, 127 fires, 49 residential structure fires, 36
commercial structure fires
