FISCAL IMPACT: County to received a total of $200 from the Share our Strength program. Share our Strength is a private, non-profit organization No County match BACKGROUND: The National Head Start Association partnered with Share Our Strength to connect young children to healthy food by offering "Cooking Matters at the Store" mini-grants to reach Head Start families. Participants learn to find whole grains, buy fruits and vegetables on a budget, compare unit prices and read food labels. EHSD Community Services Bureau will use the funds to support grocery store tours to 20 participants during the grant term. The mini-grant of $200 will assist Head Start program to facilitate interactive tours for up to 20 people. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without funding, Share our Strength Cooking Matters at the Store program will not be implemented by EHSD Community Services Bureau. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The grant will support two of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood" and 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing" by providing nutritional information and encouragement to families for healthy lifestyles.
