HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11042014 - HA C.08RECOMMENDATIONS ACCEPT report on the grand opening of Resources for Community Development’s Berrellesa Palms Apartments. BACKGROUND On May 15, 2012 the Board of Commissioners approved the award of 208 project-based vouchers to six different projects throughout Contra Costa County. On September 1, 2014, a grand opening was held for the third of these projects, Resources for Community Development's Berrellesa Palms Apartments. Berrellesa Palms provides 48 units of housing to seniors aged 62 and older with chronic health conditions who were at risk of homelessness. All 48 units were awarded project-based vouchers. Residents first began leasing units in May and all were fully occupied by the end of August. The property was designed and built to the latest green standards and picks up on Victorian elements in the neighborhood. Communal facilities include a meeting/community room, library, computer center, fitness room, laundry facilities, landscaped patio, a courtyard garden and raised planting beds for resident gardening. Individual units feature universal design elements that can be adapted to accommodate a variety of physical needs as residents age-in-place, thus allowing frail seniors to live on their own. On-site supportive services are provided by staff from the Jewish Family and Children’s Services.
