ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21548 adding one Public Health Nurse (VVXA) at salary level
QT2-1832 ($7,232 - $9,727) and one Medical Social Worker II (X4VH) at salary level 255-1590 ($5,216 - $6,341)
permanent full-time positions in the Health Services Department. (Represented)
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval, this request has an annual cost of approximately $309,718.10, which includes $68,452.24 in pension
costs. The cost is offset by State funds for the Black Infant Health Program within the Family, Maternal and Child
Health Programs.
BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department is requesting to add two positions assigned to the Black Infant Health (BIH)
Program within the Public Health Division's Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH). The BIH Program
goals include improving African American infant and maternal health, increasing the ability of African American
women to manage chronic stress, decreasing Black-White health disparities and social inequities for women and
infants, and engaging the community to support African American families' health and well-being with education and
outreach efforts.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The Public Health Nurse will provide medical assessment, case management, linkages and referrals to services
and the Medical Social Worker II will provide an initial and ongoing psychosocial assessments, one-to-one
counseling, and participate in case conferences with other providers and health advocates. There is an annual cost
of approximately $309,718.10 which is offset by State funds.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, there will not be adequate staff to meet the goals of the Black Infant Health
Program, which may negatively impact the African American infant and maternal health.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
If this action is not approved, there is not sufficient staffing in the Black Infant Health Program, which negatively
impacts the health of African American infants.
