HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10282014 - D.2 D.2 Board of Supervisors Contra Costa County Date: October 28 2014 Public Comment Eli Dominguez, resident of Martinez, spoke of unsatisfactory care and treatment he received from Contra Costa Regional Medical Center; Allyn Lee, resident of Alamo, longtime volunteer for children’s and animal welfare programs and current volunteer at the Animal Services Department, expressed her interest in the appointment of a new director for Animal Services, and encouraged the Board to choose a flexible and skilled leader; Marty Tatti, resident of Walnut Creek, 7 year volunteer at Animal Services, expressed the need for a future department director willing to examine reforms and be open to input and consideration from employee and volunteers. Ms. Tatti noted that at this time personnel did not feel comfortable speaking out regarding changes; Stan Berrigan spoke on an unacceptable level of crimes committed on Ellis Street in Concord; The Chair advised Mr. Berrigan to bring his concerns to the City Council of Concord, as the Board has no jurisdiction in incorporated cities; Gigi Crowder, resident of Antioch, expressed pleasure at the Board’s recognition of Red Ribbon Day and support for those with substance abuse issues and requested that people of color be remembered in the County’s programs; Ralph Hoffmann, resident of Walnut Creek, addressed the Board on his dismay at the Republican Party denial of climate change science and the need for a larger public transit system (handout attached); Eileen Bissen, Public Employee’s Union Local, spoke on the order of items scheduled on the Board’s agenda in regard to the inconvenience posed to employees who took time off to speak to the Board and disagreement with the placement of controversial items later in the day; Peter Mantos, commented on October 7, 2014, regarding what is consistent in that meeting as with those in the past. He noted that many issues were controversial and programs were ultimately implemented with the Board working diligently with staff and the community. Mr. Mantos requests the Board continue that leadership in mental health programs; Connie Steers, spoke about the earlier speaker’s difficulties in obtaining service at CCRMC. Ms. Steers would like to see a process to handle these problems until such time as the County once again has patients’ rights advocates contracts implemented and those personnel trained; Teresa Pasquini, resident of El Sobrante, spoke on her advocacy for mental health patients, and how failure to assist mental health consumers early on will result in those consumers becoming candidates for Laura’s Law level intervention in the future.
