ATTESTED: October 7, 2014 David J. Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: June McHuen, Deputy cc: C.1 To:Contra Costa Fire Board of Directors From:Jeff Carman, Chief, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Date:October 7, 2014 Contra Costa County Subject:Appropriation Adjustment for Purchase of New Server and Related Equipment for the 911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) advised the District that all future software releases will require more current computer equipment to comply with their minimum software specifications. Additionally, the availability of replacement parts for the current equipment is becoming difficult to acquire due to its obsolescence and the overall performance and reliability of the system has become poor. The system does not meet current day standards for operating system software, disaster recovery provisioning, and virtualization technology. The CAD system comprises fourteen individual business class servers to be virtualized on to two physical servers. This purchase is for a Cisco integrated system with a VMware (software) add on. It will provide the necessary infrastructure update to allow the District to move forward with the necessary CAD software upgrade. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If the system is not upgraded, the Fire District will not have a platform to install future CAD software upgrades and system reliability will continue to degrade. This will result in increased delays during 911 call processing and more frequent and extended system outages. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
