APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to issue Request for
Proposal #1142, for the Area Agency on Aging, Older Americans Act, Title IIIE Family Caregiver Support Program
in an amount not to exceed $400,000 for the period July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$400,000: 100% Older Americans Act, Title IIIE, Family Caregiver Support Program funding. (No County match)

BACKGROUND:
The Family Caregiver Support Program (FCGSP) will provide supportive services to include information to
caregivers about available services, assistance to caregivers to access services, individual counseling, organization of
support groups and caregiver training for decision and problem solving techniques, respite care to enable caregivers
to be temporarily relieved from their care giving roles and responsibilities, and limited supplemental care to
complement care provided by caregivers.
The FCGSP will provide services to a family caregiver, or a grandparent or older individual who is a relative

caregiver. Priority shall be given for services to older individuals with the greatest social and economic need, older
individuals providing care and support to persons with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities
consistent with the Older Americans Act, which requires that preference also will be given to low-income minority
individuals and older individuals residing in rural areas.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Services will not be made available for family caregiver-participants in the Family Caregiver Support Program.
