HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10072014 - C.48RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Department Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), to apply for and accept funding from the Praxis Group, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $15,000 for advising and training services to current and aspiring business owners in Contra Costa County participating in the Sustainable Local Food Innovation Center for the period January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive $15,000 from the Praxis Group, Inc.(100% Federal funds from the US Department of Agriculture grant to Praxis Group, Inc.) (No County match) BACKGROUND: The Praxis Group, Inc., received funding from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Sustainable Local Food Systems Innovation Center and Demonstration Farms (SLFSICDF) Grant, subsequently making that finding available to organizations and agencies such as the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa, Small Business Development Center. Funding BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) and support the development of sustainable local farm and food businesses.and support training for farmers and food entrepreneurs. The funding is designed to assist in the creation of economic opportunities. The WDB, SBDC will provide training and support to current and aspiring Contra Costa County business owners participating in the Sustainable Local Food System Innovation Center Project. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without funding, SBDC could not provide advising and training services to participants in the Sustainable Local Food Systems Innovation Center project.
