HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09232014 - PR.3RECOMMENDATION(S):
Accept a presentation from Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) on the hospital’s Welcoming Policy.
CCRMC in Martinez was one of only 12 hospitals recently recognized nationwide for supporting families as partners
in care by eliminating restrictive visiting hours. CCRMC was hailed as an exemplar hospital by the Institute for
Patient- and Family-Centered Care (IPFCC) in June this year as part of its national Better Together campaign.
IPFCC's campaign calls on all hospitals to welcome families 24 hours a day and to transform their approach to care
so that patients' families and loved ones are included in care and decision-making, based on patient preferences.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
In September 2013, CCRMC eliminated the concept of visitors in the medical center and health delivery system.
Recognizing that patients define who their families are, and that family and
loved-one presence supports safe and high quality care, CCRMC replaced its Visitor Policy with a new Welcoming
Policy to make the hospital accessible

Subject:Contra Costa Regional Medical Center Welcoming Policy
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
24 hours a day to family and loved ones of those receiving care in the medical center.
CCRMC and other Contra Costa Health Services staff, patient and family partners and the Sheriff’s Office all played
an important role in developing and implementing the new policy. To lead this effort, a comprehensive group of staff,
patients and partners were brought together to address concerns about changing visiting policies and how to
effectively make this change—including doctors, nurses, security personnel, receptionists and other staff, and patients
and their families and loved ones.
