ADOPT Resolution No. 2014/342 approving the Side Letter between Contra Costa County and the Deputy Sheriffs'
Association (Rank and File) to modify section 46.1 of the parties’ Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to include
uniform allowance for a classification created since the adoption of the MOU.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Eligible employees will receive a total of eight hundred seventy-two dollars ($872) per year. Uniform allowance is
paid for the purchase of uniforms and the cleaning and maintenance of uniforms and equipment. This action adds the
classification of Sheriff's Community Service Officer (64VI) to the list of classifications eligible to receive the
allowance. There are currently four (4) Sheriff's Community Service Officers.
BACKGROUND:
A new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Contra Costa County (County) and the Deputy Sheriffs'
Association Rank & File Unit (DSA) for the period of July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016, was approved by the
Board of Supervisors on October 1, 2013 (Resolution No. 2013/384). At that time, the classification of Sheriff's
Community Service Officer did not exist.

Uniform Allowance
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Employees in the newly created classification of Sheriff's Community Service Officer are required to purchase,
wear, and maintain a specific uniform. A Side Letter modification to the MOU is required to add the new
classification to the eligible list for the allowance. The Side Letter is effective immediately upon adoption.
Retroactive payment to the date of employment in the classification of Sheriff's Community Service Officer will
be made for those employees in the classification of Sheriff's Community Service Officers as of the date of
adoption of Resolution No. 2014/342.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Employees in the classification of Sheriff's Community Service Officer (64VI) will not receive a uniform
allowance for the uniform they are required to wear, per their job specification.
