HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09162014 - C.26RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with the West Contra Costa Unified School District to pay the County an amount not to exceed $257,500 to provide one School Resource Officer position for period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. FISCAL IMPACT: No County Costs. $257,500.00, Revenue. Budgeted. BACKGROUND: The Sheriff's Office has been providing a School Resource Officer to the West Contra Costa Unified School District since spring-2006 with primary attention at the Crespi Middle School and North Campus Middle School. The presence of the School Resource Officer impacts crime rates such as vandalism, drug and alcohol abuse, and gang violence on school grounds. Further, the School Resource Officer provides security, protection, and safety for students and staff. The School Resource Officer will develop and maintain comprehensive safety plans and strategies aimed at reducing campus crime, improving attendance, and providing a safe, secure, and peaceful school environment. The presence of the School Resource Officer has proved to be a benefit to the school, students, parents, and the community.
