APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to apply for and accept
grant funding not to exceed $125,000 from the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development
(GO-Biz) to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs to obtain access to capital to fund business consulting services
for a one-year term to begin upon the award of the grant.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$125,000, County to receive an amount not to exceed $125,000 from California Governor's Office of Business and
Economic Development (GO-Biz). (100% State) (No County match)
BACKGROUND:
The inability of small businesses to gain access to capital, remains a barrier to growth for both small businesses and
the State economy. By providing services and programs through local County Small Business Development Centers
that remove this barrier, it is expected to nurture the expansion and sustainability of the small business base, there by
allowing them to add jobs and increase taxable revenue. The grant funding will assist small businesses and
entrepreneurs

understand and navigate the financing landscape and successfully access the funding they need for their businesses. It
will support technical assistance to small businesses that are struggling to determine their credit readiness and are in
need of locating and securing appropriate funding resources for their business start-up and expansion.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Without funding, pending program(s) to small businesses and entrepreneurs could not be developed and implemented.
