HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10141986 - 2.7 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on October 14 , 1986 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson, Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBJECT: Proposed Alcohol/Cigarette Tax Jerry Nava, Alcoholism Program Chief, Health Services Department, appeared before the Board and commented on a recommen- dation for potential funding for alcohol and drug programs contained in a report issued by the California Attorney General's Commission on the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Among Youth in California. He noted that the report recommends that a Statewide committee be established to- draft and qualify an initiative which would tax alcohol and cigarettes , with the proceeds of such tax used to establish a superfund to finance youth alcohol and drug preven- tion programs. Mr. Nava requested that the Board support the proposal. Board members being in agreement, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the proposal to establish a Statewide committee to draft and qualify an initiative providing for an alcohol and cigarette tax to finance youth prevention programs is ENDORSED. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Supervisor Tom Torlakson is APPOINTED to represent Contra Costa County on said committee.
