APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the
Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County, to execute contract amendment with the Contra Costa
Community College District, effective July 23, 2014, to increase the amount to pay County by $45,000 for a new
payment limit of $220,000, for services in support of Trade Adjustment Act/Community College and Career Training
programs with no change in the term June 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
County to receive up to $220,000 (100% Federal) from Contra Costa Community College District, U.S. Department
of Labor Design it Build it Ship it grant. No County match. CFDA #19.282.
BACKGROUND:
The goal of the Design it Build it Ship it grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor is the successful transition of
unemployed adults into the Trade Adjustment Assistance/Community College Center Training (TAA/CCCT) funded
programs of study and the subsequent successful transition of those same students into the labor force occupations
aligned o the pathways of manufacturing,

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
bioscience manufacturing and transportation & logistics. the Workforce Development Board of contra Costa will
provide support to work readiness and career exploration activities; provide staffing to supplement job development
and placement activities; and, provide development of an iterative process for supporting the pathway mapping
process with ongoing analysis of labor market data and occupational trends.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Without increased funding, Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County would be unable to increase and
deliver ongoing services.
