ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21495 to add two (2) Forensic Analyst-Project (6CW1) (unrepresented)
positions at salary plan and grade D85 1538 ($4,956 - $7,689) to the Support Services Bureau, Forensic Services
Division.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% funding through the National Institute of Justice Federal Grant. No fiscal impact to Contra Costa County.
$238,549 grant = 14 months (S&B) for 2 Forensic Analyst Project positions.
BACKGROUND:
The Office of the Sheriff is the recipient of a DNA Backlog Reduction Program Grant administered through the
Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice. The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Forensic Services
Division analyzes material for twenty five (25) law enforcement clients. This program is designed to assist eligible
State and local governments to reduce forensic DNA sample turnaround time, and reduce DNA backlogs. The
funding from this award will be used to hire two (2) employees to work as technicians, to assist the analysts and
facilitate the processing of forensic biology/DNA casework.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to approve this request will negatively impact the timeliness of critical DNA casework, causing delays in
legal proceedings, investigative leads, and new equipment validations. Returning unused funds to the Department
of Justice may result in future monetary restrictions and limited financial awards.
