Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to accept, on behalf of the County, Grant Award
from the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, in an amount not to exceed $5,000, for the County’s Public
Health Comprehensive Preventative Oral Health Program and Community Outreach and Clinic Program, for the
period from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of this grant award will result in an amount payable to the County not to exceed $5,000 from the National
Children’s Oral Health Foundation for the Health Comprehensive Preventative Oral Health Program, Community
Outreach and Clinic. No County match required.
BACKGROUND:
Contra Costa Health Services, Public Health Children’s Oral Health Program has been awarded grant funds as part of
the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation America’s Tooth Fairy Campaign. The goal of this Program is to
provide excellent services and to educate, empower, and advocate for Contra Costa families to achieve their optimal
level of oral

health and well-being. The Children’s Oral Health Program will focus its efforts on increasing access to preventive
oral health care to the underserved and underinsured children ages 0-18 by collaborating with school districts, Early
Head Start/Head Start, WIC, homeless youth shelters and juvenile detention facilities.
Approval of this Grant Award #28-851-1 will allow funding to support Comprehensive Preventative Oral Health
Program and Community Outreach and Clinic Program, to purchase portable dental equipment, including patient
chairs, operator chairs, sealant materials, a portable Cavitron Ultrasonic Scaling Unit, supplies, and oral health kits,
through June 30, 2015.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this grant award is not accepted, the County will not receive funds to provide services and achieve its optimal level
of oral health and well-being for children and their families in Contra Costa County.
