Date: August 5 2014 Public Comment
Ralph Hoffmann, resident of Walnut Creek, spoke on the importance of the First Amendment right to free
speech as reflected in the scheduling of public comment on our local governing bodies' agendas and various
other rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. He noted historic anniversary's this week, today being the
100th of WWI, August 6 the bombing of Hirsoshima, Japan that ended WWII, and informed that yesterday
morning, James Brady, the man shot and disabled protecting President Reagan from an attempted
assassination (1981), passed away;
Dana Dean, California Compost Coalition, requested the Board give staff a postponement of the permit
review hearing scheduled for Keller Canyon Landfill on August 26, 2014 so they have time to further
review the use of alternative daily cover at the facility and allow more time to respond to her records
requests. (Written correspondence received from the Interim Director of the Department of Conservation
and Development attached).
Staff will bring information to the Board on August 12, 2014 for consideration
Vincent Wells, President Firefighters' Local 1230, noted the decision of the East County Fire Protection
District closing of Station 54 in Brentwood effective September 1, 2014 will have an impact on the Contra
Costa Fire Protection due to automatic aid agreements.
Tess Paoli, resident of Concord and Connie Steers, resident of Concord, spoke on the importance of full
implementation in Contra Costa County of AB 1421 known as Laura's Law.
