ATTESTED: August 5, 2014 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: Chris Heck, Deputy cc: T Scott, C Rucker, Maria Cabida C.35 To:Board of Supervisors From:William Walker, M.D., Health Services Director Date:August 5, 2014 Contra Costa County Subject:Purchase Order with Cardinal Health Pharmacy Services, LLC BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) Health System contract for 340B (federal-ceiling pricing for disproportionate share facilities) for ambulatory care. Cardinal Health contract renewal allows CCRMC to purchase medications and related supplies at the best price through Novation contract. Furthermore, Health Plan uses Cardinal Health as their source to provide medications for their patients through 340B plan via contract pharmacies (i.e., Walgreens). Having Cardinal as a wholesaler maximizes the cost savings for CCRMC and Clinics. There is about 15-20% increase in drug cost, annually. However, pharmacy department will be requesting the same amount as last year at this time. Should this be insufficient, an amendment will be submitted to cover the cost. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this Purchase Order is not approved, Hospital Pharmacy, as well as all Ambulatory Care Pharmacies within CCRMC will not be able to receive drugs from our wholesaler and the result would be a much higher cost of pharmaceuticals. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
