HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08052014 - C.14RECOMMENDATION(S): INTRODUCE Ordinance No. 2014-09 amending the County Ordinance Code to comply with state and federal laws regarding service animals on County property, WAIVE reading, and FIX August 12, 2014 for adoption. FISCAL IMPACT: None. BACKGROUND: Ordinance No. 87-73 (Prohibition Against Animals in Public Buildings) was established on September 1, 1987 to prohibit animals from public buildings except those being used by peace officers or to aid persons with disabilities. The Risk Management Department recommends amending Section 22-2.602 of the County Ordinance to comply with current disability laws and to prohibit certain animals in County facilities in accordance with state and federal law. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without the amending of this Ordinance, the public will continue to bring unauthorized animals into County buildings, including snakes, uncaged birds, as well as aggressive and out-of-control dogs.
