ADOPT Resolution No. 2014/274 marking the 50th anniversary of Contra Costa County joining the East Bay
Regional Parks District.

BACKGROUND:
In 1964, Contra Costa County voters chose to join the East Bay Regional Park District. In the 50 years that have
passed, the park district has purchased and developed for recreation purposes over 50,000 acres for the recreational,
historical and educational purposes of not only county residents but visitors from around the world: from the redwood
groves in the East Bay Hills to the waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River delta to the foothills of Mount Diablo,
the park district continues to add land to preserve open space and add to the recreational bounty of East Bay
residents..

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Children benefit from the recreation provided by the numerous regional park sites not only for the traditional
outdoor pursuits of hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities, they also learn about the value of the natural
environment and the history of our region.
