Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
Amendment Agreement #26-975-11 with Mark Van Handel, M.D., a self-employed individual, effective June 1,
2014, to amend Contract #26-975-9, (amended by Amendment Agreement 26-975-10) to modify the payment
provisions with no change in the original payment limit of $1,260,000 or the term of June 1, 2012 through May 31,
2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This amendment is funded 100% by Enterprise I Fund. This amendment will modify the payment provisions to reflect
a weekly on-call rate of $1,100 instead of the daily and evening on-call rates.
BACKGROUND:
On June 5, 2012, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-975-9 (as amended by Amendment Agreement
#26-975-10) with Mark Van Handel, M.D. for the period from June 1, 2012 through May 31, 2015 for the provision
of neurology services including clinical coverage, consultation, training, on-call coverage, and medical and/or
surgical procedures for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers (CCRMC).

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
At the request of the County, Contractor agreed to provide weekly on-call services in addition to his regular
rheumatology services, thereby eliminating daily and evening on-call coverage effective June 1, 2014. Approval of
Contract Amendment
Agreement #26-975-11 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide neurology services through May 31, 2015.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this amendment is not approved, Contractor’s payment provisions will not be modified to a weekly on-call rate.
