HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07292014 - C.55RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute a contract with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to pay the county an amount not to exceed $398,304 for Pierce's Disease Control Program for the period of July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2016.. FISCAL IMPACT: This agreement reimburses the Department for all associated costs incurred for the implementation of the Pierce's Disease Control Program, in an amount not to exceed $398,304 during the fiscal year of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. There is no match requirement and no negative impact to the county general fund. This revenue has been anticipated in the FY departmental budget. BACKGROUND: The County Department of Agriculture deploys traps, inspects incoming nursery shipments, landscaping and host crops countywide to detect incipient infestation of Glassy-winged Sharpshooter (GWSS). Any population of GWSS detected is delimited and controlled or eradicated. Pierce's Disease and it's vectors are a clear and present danger to Contra Costa County's agricultural commodities. The Agricultural commissioner can abate this nuisance pursaunt to Contra Costa County Ordinance Code section 14-6.406 and Government code section 8558. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to approve this agreement will result in lost revenue for the Department for the implementation of the Pierce's Disease Control Program.
