order with NuSpective Solutions, in an amount not to exceed $215,000, for the purchase of a Cisco integrated system
with VMware to update the 911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system infrastructure in the Contra Costa County
Fire Protection District.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$215,000; 100% Special District General Operating Fund
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District's 911 call processing computer aided dispatch (CAD) system was
purchased over 10 years ago. The existing core server (Stratus 3300) is both undersized and obsolete. The District's

Subject:Purchase of New Servers and Related Infrastructure Equipment for the 911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
overall performance and reliability of the system has become poor. The system does not meet current day standards
for operating system software, disaster recovery provisioning, and virtualization technology.
The CAD system comprises fourteen individual business class servers to be virtualized on to two physical servers.
This purchase is for a Cisco integrated system with a VMware (software) add on. It will provide the necessary
infrastructure update to allow the District to move forward with the necessary CAD software upgrade.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the system is not upgraded, the Fire District will not have a platform to install future CAD software upgrades and
system reliability will continue to degrade. This will result in increased delays during 911 call processing and more
frequent and extended system outages.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
None.
