HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06242014 - C.97RECOMMENDATION(S): AUTHORIZE the County Probation Officer, or designee, to suspend evaluation and collection of the Juvenile Record Seal Fee. FISCAL IMPACT: By waiving the juvenile record seal fee, the Probation Department will lose approximately $10,000 in Juvenile Record Seal Fee revenue annually. BACKGROUND: In 2010, the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution setting the fee for sealing juvenile records at $150, the statutory maximum. At that time, the Probation Department calculated that the actual cost of sealing juvenile records was $193.03 and estimated that the fee would generate $17,250 in revenue. Actual revenue in FY 12/13 was $10,950 and in FY 13/14 was $9,150. The process of determining a minor’s ability to pay the Juvenile Records Sealing Fee requires so much staff time that it is more cost efficient for the Probation Department to suspend the fee for all applications rather than to devote staff time to investigating each applicant’s ability to pay the fee. The Probation Department requests that the Board suspend the Juvenile Record Sealing Fee.
