HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06242014 - C.40RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Grant Agreement #28-835-2 (#1019839) with the Public Health Institute, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $155,000 for the Contra Costa Community Transformation Grant, Richmond Tap Water Project, including agreeing to indemnify and hold the grantor harmless for claims arising out of the County’s performance under this agreement, for the period from November 15, 2013 through November 14, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: This Agreement, funded by the Public Health Institute, will result in $155,000 for the Contra Costa Community Transformation Grant, Richmond Tap Water Project. (No County Match required) BACKGROUND: The Public Health Institute is the recipient of funds from the California Endowment for support and coordination of statewide healthy community transformation learning, to: facilitate capacity building, strategic interventions, and policy advocacy to prevent chronic diseases through collaboration among community transformation grant awardees and other entities statewide. In Richmond, obesity results in the loss, per person, of 3 years of life, due to cardiovascular disease, 9 years of life due to cancer, and 7 years of life due to diabetes. Under Grant Agreement #28-835-2, the County will increase awareness among low-income residents about the health benefits of drinking tap water, including agreeing to indemnify and hold the grantor harmless for claims arising out of the County’s performance under this agreement, through November 14, 2014. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this contract is not approved, the County will not receive the funding for the Community Transformation Grant, Richmond Tap Water Project.
