HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06172014 - PR.1 (2)RECOMMENDATION(S): PRESENT Ceremonial Resolution No. 2014/190, as adopted on June 3, 2014 (item C.41), to Lois Boyle in honor of her 40 years of service on the Richmond Museum Association Board, including 30 years as President, as recommended by Supervisor Gioia. FISCAL IMPACT: None. BACKGROUND: Lois Boyle became a member of the Richmond Museum Association in 1973 and served as its president 30 years until 2013. Ms. Boyle led the museum with enthusiasm, dedication and energy. She was instrumental in the museum's critical alliance with the Rosie the Riveter WWII Homefront National Historical Park, including securing the historical USS Red Oak Victory Ship in 1997 for the Richmond Museum Association, now a floating museum and unique gathering spot. The Red Oak Victory Ship is the last afloat of the 747 ships built in Richmond's WWII shipyards, and a historical gem for the community, county, and region. Ms. Boyle worked patiently and dilligently for years to win support and funding for the Red Oak project, turning skeptics to supporters. Her civic contributions are many including serving as President of the Richmond Symphony, and one of the founding members of the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts. After 10 years as a board member and 30 years as President of the Richmond Museum Association Lois Boyle has retired from active leadership, though she promises to serve as a consulting friend. The Board would like to thank Ms. Boyle for her decades of devoted service to preserving and sharing the history of Richmond, California, and congratulate her on her retirement.
