Subject:2011-14 Calif. Dept. of Educ. Facility Improvement Grant, Amendment #3
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The Community Services Bureau of Employment & Human Services Department identified a number of playgrounds
in need of wood chip replacement, new sandbox covers, installation of new surfacing and play structures and
additional shade structures. The Board approved a revenue amendment on June 5, 2012 to revise facility
improvement plans with more current cost projections and the inclusion of a new project to install bullet-proof
windows at Las Deltas childcare center in Richmond. The Board approved a second amendment on March 11, 2014
to include replacement of chipped tiles and damaged linoleum in the kitchen and hallways of Ambrose Children's
Center in Bay Point, California. This amendment #3 seeks to include the installation of a video intercom system, also
at Ambrose Children's Center in Bay Point, California.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If not approved, grant application will not be submitted which may result in a delay to completing childcare facility
improvements.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa
County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families
that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
