HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06032014 - C.94RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa to execute a contract with City of Richmond, Workforce Investment Board, to pay County an amount not to exceed $100,000 from Proposition 39, Clean Energy Job Creation, Pre-Apprentice Support, Training and Placement grant funding, for Future Build programs for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive up to $100,000 from City of Richmond, Workforce Investment Board, Proposition 39 Clean Energy Job Creation funding. BACKGROUND: Funding from Proposition 39 will focus on partnerships with employers, educators, government, community, and other stakeholders to continue to strengthen and expand the construction/energy efficiency career pathways for young adults age 18 to 24 years, veterans, and other disconnected workers with barriers to employment enabling them to explore and gain well-paid employment. The outcomes of Proposition 39 projects include: 1) Strengthened communications and connections between education and industry; 2) Increased understanding on the part of K-12 and community college systems for construction/energy efficiency fields; and,3) Increased engagement by employers in the education system through contributing curriculum development, work-based learning opportunities for students and providing financial support for construction-related education and training. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Services funded by Proposition 39, Pre-Apprenticeship Support, Training and Placement grants, could not provided. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
