SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Agreement #29-217-21 with the State Department of Health
Services (State #86-89178) for the Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Standard
Agreement #29-217-21 (State #86-89178) with' the State Department of Health Services
in the amount of $20,781 for the period July 1, 1986 December 31, 1986 for the
Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of this agreement by the State will result in $20,781 of State funding for
the Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program for the six-month period from
July 1, 1986 through December 31, 1986. Sources of funding are as follows:
$20,781 State Department of Health Services
7,899 County In-Kind Share in FY 86-87 Budget
3,585 County Fixed Overhead
$32,265 Total Program
During the prior 12-month period, the County received $41,560 from the State for
this program.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On August 20, 1985, the Board approved Contract #29-217-19 with the State
Department of Health Services for continuation of the long standing Venereal
Disease Control Project through June 30, ' 1986. The attached State-prepared
contract continues State funding through December 31, 1986 for this service which
has been renamed by the State as the Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program.
The goal of the program is to reduce the" transmission of gonorrhea* and other
sexually transmitted diseases through detection of asymtomatic disease among
susceptible female and selected male population who are at high risk of being
infected. This program interacts with family planning and other sexual education
programs.
This contract has been approved as to legal form by County Counsel's Office.
The Board Chairman should sign nine copies of the contract, eight of which should
then be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for submission to the State
Department of Health Services .
