APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute a purchase order with ComputerLand of Silicon
Valley, on behalf of the Employment and Human Services Department, Information Technology Unit, in the amount
not to exceed $161,848 to procure new Cisco 3750X switches.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$161,848: 100% Administrative Overhead (10% County; 45% State; 45% Federal)
BACKGROUND:
Cisco 3750-X Non-PoE (WS-C3750X-48T-L) had been chosen to replace the Cisco 4006. Cisco will offer limited
life time warranty, but we will need to carry additional switches as BACKUP.
It is urgent to acquire five 3750-X Non-PoE(WS-C3750X-48-L), to serve as backup to the Cisco 4006.
15 additional Cisco 3750-X will be needed later this year. It should take approximately three and half years to
complete the Project. The total estimated of the project will be $363,000. As a result we will be saving the annual
maintenance cost of

EHSD and DoIT are working to replace high-end switch gear with commodity based Cisco switches. This change will
significantly reduce and eventually eliminate Cisco Switch maintenance. This project started in 2011 and continues to
this current action. To date, 20 switches have been replaced and this request is to purchase an additional 20 switches.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Department will need to maintain outdated equipment that will affect the Department's ability to maintain and
access computer data.
